L’autoritratto come poetica, oltre che come tecnica: questo libro offre per la prima volta una rassegna amplissima di artisti che usano la fotografia avendo come soggetto il proprio io, il proprio corpo. Vengono esaminati più di 700 artisti di tutto il mondo, dagli anni ’70 ad oggi, da quelli più famosi ed affermati ai più giovani ed esordienti: il libro infatti vuole documentare la diffusione esponenziale di questo fenomeno artistico. Attraverso la ricerca della propria identità, con il travestimento, con la narrazione, la sperimentazione, la denuncia, gli artisti pongono problemi profondi che sono psicologici ed estetici, sociali e politici. L’autore dà conto di tutti con una breve introduzione ad ogni capitolo, con un esame succinto dei singoli autori e con una selezione delle loro opere, in bianco e nero ed a colori. nlettore vedrà che l’autoscatto è una pratica soprattutto degli artisti di genere femminile e che il corpo viene definito “solitario” proprio perché tale tecnica è eseguita in solitudine, da soli o al massimo con l’ausilio di un amico che preme il pulsante della macchina fotografica, così “il corpo solitario” si impone nella società massificata come testimonianza di malessere ma anche come possibilità di evasione e di salvezza.
